It’s Earth Day
It’s Earth Day! Meaning it’s a day to celebrate the earth and attempt to make eco-friendly decisions. Here are some easy steps you can try if you want to make a change in the name of Earth Day.
Following the 3 R’s
Use Fluorescent Lightbulbs
Not only are these better for the environment, but they actually last a LOT longer than your typical lightbulb, meaning you get more bang for your buck.
Consider going paperless when it comes to bills. This saves the paper being used to mail you your bills, and you can likely clear up some clutter from the stacks of papers around your home.
Fix Leaky Faucets
You keep putting off fixing that leaky faucet, but make Earth Day your motivation to fix that faucet and stop the wasting of water.
BYOC – Bring Your Own Cup
Are you a coffee drinker? Make an effort to use your own coffee cup. Disposable cups aren’t good for the environment, so by bringing your own, each day you cut down on waste. Additionally, many places will give you a small discount for bringing your own cup. Now you can save and be green.
Buy a Reusable Water Bottle
Buy a reusable water bottle you like, and with that, stop using plastic bottles. This is much better for the Earth as these bottles don’t end up in landfills, and you’ll actually save money in the long run.
Buying local is better for the earth – there is less transportation costs, less fuel used, etc. So look up when your town’s farmers market is and make a point to go.
BYOB – Bring Your Own Bag
Use reusable bags! This cuts down on the amount of plastic bags you are using. Some stores give a few cent discount for bringing your own as well, which adds up after many shopping trips. Also, if you do use any plastic bags/packaging, you can recycle it at many stores. They have bins where you just drop the bags.
