January is Weight Loss Awareness Month, which is a great way to get motivated about starting to live a healthier lifestyle. General Heating and Air Conditioning is a huge advocate for safety, and remember, safety isn’t all about the workplace: You need to keep your body safe and healthy as well.

Weight loss is a hard topic for many people, and there are so many unhealthy ways to go about it. Therefore, the whole purpose of the month-long event is to educate and spread awareness about weight loss and the healthy way to do so.

Physical Activity

This is so important to healthy weight loss. You want to start with a warm-up to loosen your muscles. After you warm-up, your muscles are more like a rubber band, something to move with you. If you jump right into physical activity, your muscles are much more tense, and you are liable to hurt yourself. The last thing to remember is you don’t have to go from 0 to 180 overnight. Work up to what you are capable of. If you only work out once or twice a week, think about the fact that you are doing that much more than you were previously doing.

Healthy Diet

A healthy diet is key. Fad diets that are trendy are very unhealthy, so to combat this, you want to simply eat healthy. This means you want to eat your fruits, vegetables, and other food groups in the right portions. Eating healthy doesn’t mean that you can’t eat “bad” foods every once in awhile. Everything is all about proportion.


Staying positive and having a good attitude is another really important factor in safe weight loss. If you are consistently unhappy, you are not going to see the progress you are making or appreciate how hard it is to just do that.

These are three of many ways to be healthy and lose weight. You want to find what works for you, and do not be afraid to try a new approach if one of the first ways you tried did not work.
